Blind kitty from Indiana to British Columbia

Update 2011 Jun 15:

Little blind Candy kitty -- now "Princess Di" -- is HOME in British Columbia, Canada!

Thanks to Continental Airlines, good weather, and the persistence of the wonderful couple who has long wanted to provide for this very special kitty, Candy got her needed flight and is now in the arms of her ever-loving human family!
This is one of those stories of humans' real commitment to saving and tending the life of an animal.  They and Candy waited for months for weather and flights to come together to make this happen.   Thank You, Carol and David!!

Here is an update from Carol with more photos of Princess riding to and then fitting right in to her forever home, at last with her Mum and Dad!

Dear Bonny,

I have attached a few pictures of our new Princess...she is such a doll and so trusting of us. The only problem I can see is that she's fallen in love with my hubbie and tends to ignore me in the evenings.

One of the pictures shows Princess sleeping on our bed at the hotel in Vancouver...we had to spend one night there and then ferry home.
One of the other pictures shows Princess sitting in the front seat of my car, whilst we were waiting for he ferry to come home...she didn't budge from that spot the whole time waiting and traveling on the ferry. Mind you we both slept for a whole hour on the ferry.
The last picture shows Princess and her mum...me...having an afternoon nap the day after getting home from Vancouver...we were both pooped. lol

At the last minute I added a few more pictures. One shows Princess on her dad's chair not bothering to come to her mum for bedtime. lol

She has shown us nothing but unconditional love and we're giving it right back. Our one kitty Oonagh, who needed to come down a peg, has done so...Princess doesn't put up with any guff from Oonagh at all. They actually all (four of them), sleep together on my bed during the day and at night.

We've had no trouble with her blindness...she even goes downstairs once in a while to use the downstairs litter box...which is kind of funny really when there is one upstairs, too.

She loves having her belly rubbed and can pretend to bite at times, but never ever hard, just a gentle bite.

We are so lucky to have her and I'm so glad I found Continental Airlines who fly animals year round...they are the only airline in North America to do this...all of their cargo planes are climate controlled, as well they have rooms in airports which are also climate controlled in case an animal has a long layover.

Thank you for your kindness to me over these past few months. I'm sure you thought I was a bit of a bother at times and I'm ever so glad you actually didn't say it out loud.

I'll be in touch as soon as our posties are back to work and we start receiving mail again.

All the best in all you do, your friend Carol

'Candy' has been waiting for months in foster homes in Indiana, to find a way to her forever home and family in British Columbia, Canada.

candy

Candy is a young female cat who is blind.  She has been living in a foster home near Indianapolis, but a couple in British Columbia, Canada has been supporting her and want very much to adopt her. They found On Wings Of Care a few weeks ago and asked for our help. Our first thought was to fly Candy with us on our April 2 rescue flight from southern California to Washington, but we weren't able to get her from Indiana in time.  So we're looking for other ways.   Can you help? We will pay for her to fly commercially as carry-on luggage with someone flying from anywhere within 200 miles of Indianapolis (Chicago, Cincinnatti, Dayton, etc.), to any cities near New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, or Seattle.  We have volunteers in all of those places who can bring her either to us or to her new home in B.C.  We are also networking with other pilots to fly her to On Wings Of Care friends and volunteers on the west coast, who will get her the rest of the way to her forever home in B.C.  Please contact us if you can help or have good ideas!

Follow Our Flights!

You can track our paths for several days after them, when we keep our GPS "SPOT" transmitter on "Track" mode. For the latest flights, see

JEREMIAH has come home to us!
2012 January 13

His adopter called to say she had become ill, and could we care for Jeremiah? You bet we could.  We rented a plane and flew to Arizona and retrieved him immediately. Jeremiah was indeed a true friend, and we aim to be his true friends, too. He has been eating like crazy and slept his stress away for the first few days, and now he's acting like a young dog again.  Read more here

CHAMP found at the airport!
2012 January 01

A sad, scared but dignified young Champ quickly won the hearts of everyone who met him at the New Orleans airport, and within two days we had permission from his original breeders to give him to a young couple with a younger female boxer mix, all of whom fell totally in love with him at first sight!  Champ and Miss Princess are leading the good life now, and Champ's new dad finally has the fishing buddy he wanted! They tell us we made their dreams come true. We think they made Champ's come true, too.

Yo!  Get a Load of Yolo!
2011 November--2012 January

Left in the cold, high in the mountains of southern California, life was over before it had barely begun for this orphan teenager.
Little did he know, his adventures had only begun! As of January 7, it's back to snow but this time with a family who adores him, and lots of fun and play in the Pacific Northwest!

Saving Scarlett -- Love Forever at Last!
2011 August--December

Found on the streets, teats full but puppies absent, a battle-torn very hungry pitbull.
Hardly that sought-after doggie in the window.
But after we brought Miss Scarlett home to love and food, warmth and stuffed animals,
we discovered a warm heart and sweet spirit that changed us forever.
