One Lucky Dog made it home for Christmas!

2010 Dec 23
Lucky had just finished six months in the Gulf volunteering with his Mom "Miche" helping with cleanup and recovery from the oil spill. They were flying back home to California in time for Christmas with family; but just before their scheduled departure, Lucky got lost! Miche was unable to delay or reschedule her flight, so she went home to California, and unlucky Lucky Boy was on his own in New Orleans.
Resourceful mom Miche turned to Facebook for help to find her poor unlucky Lucky. After hundreds of people had learned of this sad situation, and that many kind but unsuccessful efforts had gone by to find Lucky, Miche finally got that message on Facebook with a photo of her boy! The very kind couple who had found him took Lucky into their home and continued to care for him lovingly while Miche worked out the next challenge -- how to get Lucky back to California.
Facebook to the rescue again, as someone advised Miche to turn to On Wings Of Care for help. Now, it's a long flight in a small airplane from New Orleans to Los Angeles. (We made that flight several times after the April 2010 Gulf oil spill!) But to make that flight just for Lucky would have cost just in fuel much more than Miche could afford. But Lucky was small enough that he could fly commercially as a 'carry-on' with someone -- if only we could find a person with whom he could fly!
As luck would have it (excuse the pun), Bonny of On Wings Of Care had some other business to attend to related to her ongoing volunteer work in the Gulf. She had been waiting to return to New Orleans in order to combine it with some other activities and to
find an inexpensive commercial airline ticket. When this rescue need came up, it seemed like the time to go to New Orleans had arrived! And when we told the story of unlucky Lucky to friends in New Orleans, they very kindly offered to help defray the costs of getting Lucky back to California. We booked the last seat for a flight two days before Christmas and I took a small dog carrier with me for Lucky's transport back. Lucky's foster parents in New Orleans met us just outside New Orleans, and on Christmas Eve, Lucky and I caught an early flight back to Los Angeles.
Miche and her family drove down to Los Angeles from their home up in the high desert -- a trip that took them almost as long as it took Lucky and me to fly back from New Orleans. But for Miche and her family, and for Lucky and his beloved canine sister "Lulu Bear", it was their most fervent Christmas wish come true!

JEREMIAH has come home to us!
2012 January 13
His adopter called to say she had become ill, and could we care for Jeremiah? You bet we could. We rented a plane and flew to Arizona and retrieved him immediately. Jeremiah was indeed a true friend, and we aim to be his true friends, too. He has been eating like crazy and slept his stress away for the first few days, and now he's acting like a young dog again. Read more here!
CHAMP found at the airport!
2012 January 01
A sad, scared but dignified young Champ quickly won the hearts of everyone who met him at the New Orleans airport, and within two days we had permission from his original breeders to give him to a young couple with a younger female boxer mix, all of whom fell totally in love with him at first sight! Champ and Miss Princess are leading the good life now, and Champ's new dad finally has the fishing buddy he wanted! They tell us we made their dreams come true. We think they made Champ's come true, too.
Abby & Dinozo -- Two of a Kind!
2011 September--2012 January
Orphaned brother and sister, rescued and adored until calamity struck and they lost their family. Orphaned again, these gentle gems and perfect canine citizens found love and adventure with us until we found them their true forever home! Abby & Dinozo came with us to Washington January 7, and they were welcomed warmly and immediately into a home. Read more here!
Yo! Get a Load of Yolo!
2011 November--2012 January
Left in the cold, high in the mountains of southern California, life was over before it had barely begun for this orphan teenager.
Little did he know, his adventures had only begun! As of January 7, it's back to snow but this time with a family who adores him, and lots of fun and play in the Pacific Northwest!

Saving Scarlett -- Love Forever at Last!
2011 August--December
Found on the streets, teats full but puppies absent, a battle-torn very hungry pitbull.
Hardly that sought-after doggie in the window.
But after we brought Miss Scarlett home to love and food, warmth and stuffed animals,
we discovered a warm heart and sweet spirit that changed us forever.
